RSOs (Run/Screen Options)—Pairing Top Runs with Pre-Snap Screen Reliefs: While some coaches choose to have the QB make pre-snap RPO decisions for runs/screens, Eagle Pass High School (TX) offensive coordinator Javier Cardenas elects for a less expensive option by taking the guesswork out of the QB’s hands. Instead, coaches will alert the QB when to throw the screen element on the perimeter based on defensive alignment all while the run RPO element stays intact. In an exclusive clinic report from X&O Labs, Coach Cardenas explains his RSOs, including how the staff tags the pre-snap screen concept and the QB makes the correct post-snap read. It has simplified the QB’s thought process for a 90% completion rate last season while allowing the offensive line and receivers to play fast. X&O Labs will release this report next Tuesday morning at 7 am EST. To have this report sent directly to your inbox, click here and enter your best email.
