The Scouting Academy: I had a very good experience during my time with the Scouting Academy! The class helped me gain more insight and hone my skills to effectively communicate and identify Critical Factors/Position Specifics by position. The skills taught in the class are transferable to any level/area of the game – high school, college, aspiring NFL personnel, media, etc. Beginning or prospective students need to know what they are signing up for because the class will push you. The time commitment is demanding, so the individuals must have a realistic understanding prior to joining so they can maximize their experience. Overall, I would recommend this class to those with an intermediate football background to the football junkie that wants to gain a better understanding of personnel, individual positions, and report writing.   –Ricky Ciccone

USC: Sark announced yesterday that offensive coordinator Clay Helton would call the plays this season.

The Scouting Academy: The Scouting Academy provides an unbelievable opportunity to learn how to evaluate the different position groups of a football team through insight from General Managers, Head Coaches and Scouts from the NFL. They give you the unique insight of what skills the teams in the NFL are looking for at each position and how they build a 53 man roster. The workload is rigorous and the pace is fast, but when you are finished you will know what it takes to be a Scout in the NFL. –John Cook.

Xavier: Jeff Poulard has joined the off-the-field staff as director of compliance. Poulard arrives on the job after serving as the assistant director of compliance at Maryland.

The 11 Most Effective Open Field Tackling Drills: X&O Labs’ research shows that 32 percent of open field tackles are missed. It’s the highest missed tackle rate among all types of potential tackles and X&O Labs found the deficiencies fall into three main problem areas: defenders come to balance too early on the ball carrier, defenders lose leverage as force players and defenders overrun cutback angles. In this week’s troubleshooting series, X&O Labs combed through the annals of their database to find the eleven most effective drills in eliminating these problem areas. It’s a culmination of how various coaches are teaching their defenders to close space and make tackles in the open field in one-on-one situations. These drills range from the NFL through the high school level and can be implemented in your program this afternoon to solve the open field tackle predicament. See X&O Labs’ Open Field Tackling Drills Here.

MidAmerica Nazarene (NAIA – KS): Per source, Ashford Collins is coaching the running backs at MidAmerica Nazarene.
