2011 Division III Coordinator of the Year

The FootballScoop Coaches of the Year awards presented by SpeedTracs are the only set of awards that recognize the most outstanding position coaches in college football.  Finalists were selected based off of nominations by coaches, athletic directors, and athletic department personnel. A panel of coaches, including previous recipients, will determine the the 2011 winner. Votes tallied on this page are considered; however our panel will make the final decision.  Voting for this award ends on Tuesday December 13th.

Previous winners of the Division III Coordinator of the Year award are Glen Fowles (Willamette, 2008), Jim Zebrowski (Wisconsin-Whitewater, 2009) and Vince Kehres (Mount Union, 2010).

Brian Borland – University of Wisconsin Whitewater


Defending national champion Wisconsin Whitewater has boasted one of the top defenses in recent years, and this year is no different. The Warhawks are ranked #4 in rushing yards per game, allowing only 73 yards on the ground (and 2.3 yards per carry), and are also in the top ten in both scoring defense (#5 allowing 11.5 ppg) and turnover margin (#5 with 1.67 per game). The Warhawks regular season victories include big shut out victories over MIAA conference champion Albion (59-0) and HCAC champ Franklin (45-0).

Wallie Kuchinski – St. Thomas


Kuchinski has headed one of the most impressive defenses in the country this season and has St. Thomas sitting at 12-0 . The Tommies have allowed only 12 points through two games of the playoffs showing why they have the #3 scoring defense in the nation, allowing just over 9 points per game. St. Thomas’ pass defense has been impressive only allowing opponents to complete 45% of their passes. The run defense has been extremely stout as well allowing only 46 yards per game on the ground (#3) and 1.53 yards per carry.

Clay Richardson – Cal Lutheran University


Clay Richardson has been a familiar face on the sidelines for Cal Lutheran, spending the past 10 seasons calling the offensive plays. This season the Kingsmen have averaged 7 yards per play, and scored 62 touchdowns en route to having the #3 scoring offense in the nation (45.2 ppg). Richardson has also tutored the #23 rusher in the nation in Daniel Mosier who averages 114 yards on the ground per game, and Quarterback Jason Laudenslayer ranks in the top 10 in passing efficiency as well as running for over 500 yards and throwing for almost 2,300 yards.
