Former Colgate head coach Dick Biddle has passed

Dick Biddle, a former five-time Patriot League Coach of the Year winner and member of the Colgate athletics Hall of Honor, has passed.

He was 75.

Biddle led the Colgate program from 1996-2013, leaving as the winningest head coach in program history.

He recorded a 137-73 record, including an impressive 81-27 record in Patriot League play.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Biddle, Brendan and the entire Biddle family," current Colgate head coach Stan Dakosty shared in a statement from the school.

"Very few people can impact a football program, at any level, the way Coach did over his tenure here. He was unapologetic about his desire to win, and to win championships. He led with a sense of toughness and grit. He was Colgate Football personified. I don't think Coach ever truly appreciated the impact he had on his players or this program. Personally, I owe so much to him, and I know many others do as well."

When Biddle took over the program in 1996, he inherited a team coming off an 0-11 season and immediately brought it back to life with a 6-5 season.

Year two was a special one, as the Raiders would win their first of his seven league championships.

In 2003, he and his staff led the program on a 15-0 run that culminated in a run all the way to the national title game, where they lost their first game of the year and became the only Patriot League team to make an appearance in the national title game.

In 2015, Colgate announced a three-part tribute to their iconic former coach, dedicating Biddle Way, Biddle Plaza, and the Dick Biddle video board at Andy Kerr stadium in his honor.

Please join us in praying for the Biddle family and those impacted by his passing.
