Per source, Nebraska-Kearney (D-II) has let go head coach Darrell Morris after 15 seasons leading the program. The school has since confirmed the move.
Prior to being named head coach in October of 1999, Morris spent 14 seasons as an assistant in the UNK program (1986-1999). At the conclusion of the 2002 and 2005 seasons, after leading UNK to their only double digit win seasons in school history, Morris took home RMAC conference coach of the year honors.
Heading into this season, Morris had the second highest win percentage (64%) and ranked third all time in wins (98) at the university.
This season, the Lopers went a disappointing 3-8, including an 0-5 start before rattling off back to back wins against Northeastern State and Lindenwood. They would go on to lose three of their last four games, two of them by a touchdown or less.
Morris wraps up his time leading the program with an overall mark of 101-63.
Update> The University has now announced the decision. Defensive coordinator Bob Crocker, Tom Everson and Matt Miller will remain with the program through the transition to a new head coach. The new head coach will determine their long-term status.
