Back in January, Lawrence University (D-III - WI) hired Rob McCarthy as their new head coach. Since then, a lot of changes have taken place at Lawrence, starting with a new staff, they've since opened a new field, and they now have a new helmet.
Since the Lawrence mascot is the Vikings, the staff decided to integrate the Viking sword into the helmet design as the stripe down the middle. It turned out to look pretty sharp, and the attention to detail there on the handle on the back of the helmet is pretty impressive.
Considering what they wore last year (in the white pictured here) this is a major improvement and is something that recruits are going to really respond positively to.
We're hearing of more and more programs getting creative with their helmet stripe with ideas like this, so this is a clearly a trend increasing in popularity.
Lawrence dropped their season opener last weekend to Rockford University (D-III - IL) 52-17 and looks to get back on track tomorrow against Maranatha Baptist (D-III - WI).
