Bill Belichick brings jerseys with no names or numbers to open practice at North Carolina (No Number)

Do Your Job will forever be associated with Bill Belichick and the Patriots dynasty during his time in New England.

To the surprise of precisely no one, Belichick has taken that mantra to North Carolina and is finding ways to adapt it to a new, younger audience.

While plenty of programs have made waves over the last several years for including social media handles on the back of jerseys, Belichick is taking the exact opposite approach at his first college head coaching job.

Since the Tar Heels first spring practice yesterday, social media has been buzzing about the fact that UNC players not only don't have numbers on their jerseys...they don't even have last names on the nameplates.

After yesterday's practice, when asked about it, Belichick gave a signature short answer.

"There's not much of an explanation, that's just what we do - we just go out there and we earn it."

“The numbers and the gloves you wear is not as important as doing your job and being responsible and accountable to your teammates, and being a good teammate. Our focus is on the team."

"It's not about individual notoriety right now, it's about trying to put together a team. We did it at New England, and did it for years and years. I just don’t think that is important this time of year.”

While it will seem new to many folks, Patriots fans will recall it's actually the same approach he tried to utilize in New England. Belichick explains out numberless jerseys to all players - including Tom Brady - for years before the NFL stepped in back in 2016 and banned it.

The NFL's decision to require jersey numbers in Phase 3 of the off season program that included OTAs and minicamp, stemmed from their view of better allowing the NFL office and NFLPA to monitor player participation, according to reports at the time.
