Just days after saying he wasn't worried about getting his, Deion Sanders now is getting his.
Colorado's third-year head coach is getting a new deal.
On Friday, the University of Colorado's Board of Regents approved a long-term extension to Sanders's coaching contract, which had three years remaining on the original deal.
Sanders now has agreed to terms with Colorado on an extension through the 2029 season.
After being paid approximately $5 million in each of his first two seasons in Boulder, Colorado, Coach Prime has been rewarded with a new deal that multiple reports indicated would double his salary to nearly $10 million per year.
In fact, Coach Prime's deal will average substantially more than $10 million across its five-year term. Per salaries released by Colorado, Deion Sanders will earn $10 million each of the next two seasons, $11 million in both 2027-28 and $12 million in 2029.
Sanders's contract also contains additional incentives that can elevate those guaranteed earnings, but the new deal guaranteed Coach Prime $54 million -- or an average of $10.8 million per season.
There presently are eight FBS coaches known to have deals worth at least $10 million annually, with first-year North Carolina coach Bill Belichick among the latest to join the group. Sanders's new deal will reportedly place him in that general range.
Notre Dame, a private institution that does not fully disclose its coaches' contract terms, also rewarded Marcus Freeman last December with a long-term extension that numerous sources told FootballScoop carried with it an average annual value of $10 million or slightly above for its six-year term.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to continue building something special here at Colorado," Sanders said upon announcement of the new deal. "We've just scratched the surface of what this program can be.
"It's not just about football; it's about developing young men who are ready to take on the world. I'm committed to bringing greatness to this university, on and off the field. We've got work to do, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but here, making history with these incredible players and this passionate fan base."
Then, Sanders couldn't resist adding a touch of his signature flamboyance, asking: "Lastly, anybody got at least a five-bedroom home with acreage for sale?
The Buffaloes went 9-4 in 2024, ending their season with a bowl loss to Big 12 rival BYU.
Colorado opens Year 3 of the Coach Prime era Friday, Aug. 29, in a primetime game at home against Georgia Tech.
