FootballScoop breaks down the return of college football, top storylines (college football kick off)

College football kicks off its 2025 season in less than 100 hours.

That's right, the great sport is set for its return and amidst an ongoing unprecedented era in collegiate athletics.

Resuming its long-running podcast and kicking off a season with more podcasts scheduled than ever before, FootballScoop dives into just a handful of this season's top storylines.

Bold predictions? Nah, those come next week.

But candid talk about the state of the game, the demands on coaches and the ever-increasing pressures facing all aspects of collegiate athletics but absolutely most rampant in college football.

Does Arch Manning break out? Zach Barnett has thoughts. Scott Roussel has unique insight with a longstanding friendship with the Manning family.

Is the FootballScoop staff just locked in or clueless when they go more than 20 minutes in their return to podcasting celebrating the return of college football without mentioning BIll Belichick or Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders?

Or, are those two lightning rod figures just other stories in a sport with no shortage of captivating storylines in a season guaranteed to be unlike any other.

The College Football Playoff 12-team format already is slightly changing again this year, to say nothing of hair-brained Big Ten proposals to give literally all its members a CFP participation medal -- and more absurdly, a participation invitation. Barnett has thoughts.

Our resident coach Doug Samuels already is keying in on Texas Tech. The Red Raiders and affable head coach Joey McGuire are boldly -- brashly? -- embracing their mercenary roster-assembly approach. But they had a key running back go down this week with a season-ending injury.

And what if Texas Tech does run through the Big 12, all the way to the conference title and or a CFP spot? Or what if the season fizzles? How does that impact spending around the sport of college football.

There's never been a year, even with the charismatic and late, great Mike Leach swashbuckling the sidelines, when Texas Tech has been so prominent in the national conversation.

All these and more, plus again: this is just the beginning. The Scoop Pod is back, and it's about to be coming to you several times per week.

As a reminder, the FootballScoop podcast is available on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, iHeart and....well you'll find it.
