Deion Sanders has reportedly made a coordinator change at Colorado (Featured)

Deion Sanders and Colorado have tried a number of different strategies to try and jumpstart their season, where they currently sit at 3-6 and just 1-5 in Big 12 play, which places them 14th out of 16 schools.

The Buffs have tried different quarterbacks, in Kaidon Slater and Ryan Staub, and are now set to start highly touted freshman Julian Lewis as the program continues to find it's way after losing stars in Shadeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL Draft after last season. Both Sanders and Hunter left massive shoes to fill, as they each ended their careers in Boulder with their numbers retired.

The changes also reportedly extend to offensive play callers.

After their embarrassing 53-7 loss to Utah on October 25th, USA Today shares that Sanders stripped veteran play caller and former NFL head coach Pat Shurmur of the play calling duties. He now just mentors the quarterbacks.

Shurmur caught a lot of heat last season from fans and media for the team's inability to protect Shadeur during a 9-win campaign in 2024, as the Buffs allowed nearly 4 sacks per game. Colorado ended that season ranked 126th out of 133 teams at protecting the quarterback.

This season, that has continued to be an issue, with the offensive line giving up about 3 sacks per game, ranking marginally better at 116th nationally.

During last week's 52-17 home loss to Arizona, Prime handed play calling duties to pass game coordinator and tight ends coach Brett Bartolone, according to USA Today.

Bartolone's relationship with Prime stretches back to Jackson State, where Brett served as the team's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach before following him to Boulder to become a position coach.

With the change, Sanders is now on his third offensive coordinator in three seasons in Boulder.

His first coordinator upon taking the job was Sean Lewis, who he hired away from the Kent State head coaching job, but demoted him mid-season. Lewis is now the head coach at San Diego State, where the Aztecs are 7-1 overall and field one of the top defenses in college football.

Yesterday, speaking to the media, Prime hinted at these types of changes after being asked about potential staff changes.

"I might have already made changes, and you don't know. I don't do stuff, and blow the whistles and make major announcements like, 'Hey!' I don't do that kind of stuff."

"I do it, and then I let you guys take shots and you may be shooting at the wrong target. So some things take place that you may not be privy to."

Prime, who has continued to battle ongoing health issues during this trying season on the field, and the Buffs have three games remaining on their schedule with a trip to West Virginia this weekend before getting Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State at home, followed by their season finale in Manhattan against Chris Klieman and Kansas State.
