Somehow, it's Week 11.
And, somehow, coaching changes at the Football Bowls Subdivision level are still in greater number than weeks in the season.
Twelve FBS posts sit empty, including some premium-brand Power Conference vacancies in places like the Plains and the Swamp and Death Valley and un-Happy Valley, as the first set of games are played after the first set of College Football Playoff rankings were unveiled Tuesday night.
There are showdowns that should have been -- looking at you, Florida State-Clemson -- and showdowns that are -- No. 3 Texas A&M at No. 22 Missouri.
Georgia has a sneaky difficult challenge against another set of Bulldogs when it travels to Jeff Lebby's Mississippi State squad. The cowbell-ringers need just one more win for bowl eligibility in what would be a continuance of a remarkable turnaround. State let slip away potential signature-wins at home already this season with overtime losses to UT -- Tennessee, the real one -- and the burnt-orange UT, Texas. State scored 34 and 38 points in those two games but fell by a touchdown in each instance in bonus play.
Kirby Smart's Bulldogs, meanwhile, despite just one loss and a No. 5 CFP ranking, have little margin for error. This contest at minimum should be viewed a trap-game with a visit from CFP-ranked No. 11 Texas looking next week followed by a paid-for-win the following week against Charlotte before closing its season against Georgia Tech in Mercedes Stadium.
If Georgia drops a game to either State or Texas, it rolls into Atlanta to face Tech's best team in decades in a de facto CFP eliminator match.
ESPN GameDay is visiting Texas Tech for the first time in years, and that Red Raiders vs. undefeated BYU is a massive showcase opportunity for the Big 12 Conference. The visiting Cougars are No. 7 per the CFP committee this week; Tech is No. 8.
But the Red Raiders are favored. Big 12 brass cannot say they want BYU to win a close one, but that's probably the best-case scenario for the Big 12 to get two bids to the 12-team tournament.
It's all these games discussed by Team FootballScoop and much more in the latest College Football Week 11 preview.
