Sources: Washington State hiring Kirby Moore (Featured)

Another seat on the coaching wheel is being filled.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that star Missouri offensive coordinator Kirby Moore is set to become Washington State's new head coach.

Moore is finalizing the deal and is line to replace the departed Jimmy Rogers, who exited after one season last weekend when Rogers was hired to take over for Matt Campbell at Iowa State.

Campbell had accepted the Penn State job and was introduced there earlier this week.

In Moore, Washington State positions itself to get someone with intimate familiarity with the region.

He's from Prosser, Washington, and played wide receiver at Boise State, where his brother, current New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore, also starred for the Bronocs.

Kirby Moore's ascent in college football this decade has been a rapid rise. He's been an Football Bowls Subdivision offensive coordinator the past four seasons, first for one year at Fresno State and the past three at Missouri under Eliah Drinkwitz.

During the past three years at Missouri, the Tigers have boasted some of that program's strongest success in more than a decade.

Missouri had a double-digit win season that it punctuated when it defeated Ohio State after the 2023 season in the Cotton Bowl; it's also been ranked multiple times in the College Football Playoff Top 25 during that same span.

Kirby Moore spent one year immediately after his playing career on staff at the College of Idaho, went to work for his former head coach at Boise State, Chris Petersen, at Washington, and then has zoomed through the coaching ranks in barely a decade.

Moore, still in his early 30s, immediately becomes one of FBS football's youngest head coaches.

Washington State is continuing to seek stability in its football program through myriad factors this decade.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21, Washington State officials fired Nick Rolovich for the then-head coach's refusal to accept the COVID-19 vaccine due to personal beliefs.

The Cougars then turned to Jake Dickert, who was named interim head coach after Rolovich's midseason dismissal and stayed through 2024.

But Dickert left Washington State, which has faced an uncertain future due to the dismantling of the Pac-12, after the 2024 season to take over at Wake Forest.

Then, Rogers left after just one year to take over at Iowa State.

Now, Moore is set to become the program's fourth different head coach in barely four calendar years.
