Howard head coach Larry Scott is stepping down to join Alex Golesh's new Auburn staff as tight ends coach, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Monday. The news was first reported by CBS Sports.

Scott has been the head coach at Howard since 2020, going 23-37. He won a share of back-to-back MEAC titles in 2022-23 and reached the 2023 Celebration Bowl. The Bison went 5-7 in 2025.

Golesh and Scott have both worked at South Florida and Tennessee previously, though never at the same time. A former Bulls offensive tackle, Scott spent 2006-12 at his alma mater, starting as a GA and later coaching the offensive line, tight ends and running backs. The Sebring, Fla., native brings deep Sunshine State ties, having served as a Florida high school coach and coaching stints at Miami and Florida in addition to his time at South Florida.

Scott was also Tennessee's tight ends coach from 2016-17, serving as offensive coordinator for the final year in Knoxville.

Golesh spent 2021-22 as Tennessee's offensive coordinator before his 3-season run at USF.

Scott is the second FCS head coach at a mid-Atlantic school to take a Power 4 job today. VMI head coach Danny Rocco is expected to join James Franklin's Virginia Tech staff, sources told FootballScoop on Monday.
