Barry Odom keeps working to make big staffing moves -- on and off the field -- as he prepares to enter Year 2 atop the Purdue Boilermakers football program.
On Sunday, Odom further fortified his Purdue personnel department, FootballScoop learned.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Odom's Boilermakers are adding Xavier Goldsmith into the role of Associate Director of Scouting.
It was just a few weeks ago that Odom first hired Butler Benton into a top personnel post.
With Goldsmith, Purdue adds someone with experience nearly spanning coast to coast and also featuring levels of college football from the Group of Five to the Power Conferences.
Most recently on staff at Colorado State, Goldsmith also has experience at the University of Utah and at Western Michigan, where he worked in Lance Taylor's program and under notable personnel guru Gaizka Crowley.
Odom has made notable staff changes on offense, defense and in personnel since concluding the 2025 season.
The former Missouri and UNLV head coach has revamped his on-field staff, as well as seeking to beef up the Boilermakers' personnel and recruiting departments in this wild, NCAA Transfer Portal era.
Purdue is preparing to host prospects from the Transfer Portal on official visits with the first-ever single-window Portal running from Jan 2.-Jan. 16, 2026.
The Boilermakers finished the 2025 campaign 2-10 and are scheduled to open the 2026 season Sept. 5, 2026, at home versus Football Championship Subdivision program Indiana State for a cross-over Big Ten Conference versus Atlantic Coast Conference tilt Sept. 12 at home against Wake Forest. The Boilermakers then conclude the non-conference portion of their scheduled two weeks later against longtime, in-state rival Notre Dame.
The Fighting Irish have won the last eight meetings in the series, including wins in the 2024-25 seasons against first Ryan Walters and then Odom by a combined 122-37 margin.
