Coach long enough and there will be seasons where it's harder to put up points than others.
A school in North Carolina just went through a difficult offensive season of epic proportions.
High Point Central HS has decided to take the 2026 season after being outscored 523-0 during the 2025 season, multiple reports have shared
The school has decided it best to regroup in 2026 and will field only a junior varsity team in hopes of building back to a varsity level at a later date down the road.
The program, which hasn't enjoyed a winning season since 2014 when they went 9-4, has endured 11-straight losing seasons. Three of those seasons ended without a single win.
This year marked the second straight season winless for High Point Central, as much of their team included freshman and sophomores thrust into starting roles for the Varsity program against 17 and 18 year olds.
While they failed to put up any points this past season, last year wasn't a whole lot better for them on offense. They finished the 2024 campaign outscored 539-19.
So over the last two seasons, the program has been outscored 1,062-19.
Head football coach Brent David, who stepped into the head coaching role earlier this year leading the program, noted the decision to hit pause on varsity football was difficult but necessary after a decade of low player participation, limited depth, and an increasingly young roster.
“We’re not suspending football, we’re just pausing it, giving the kids the chance to get stronger and be more successful.”
With the year away from varsity competition, David notes that the school plans to focus on rebuilding the foundation, starting at the JV program, but also focusing closely on the middle school program and youth leagues.
