February 5th, 2026 Update >> Tom Pelissero shares Ah You is expected to be named the new outside linebackers coach for the Steelers.
I've gone on record plenty of times about how Joey McGuire doesn't get enough credit for changing the DNA of the Texas Tech program into one that is now nationally known for their defense, and not their offense and they had been previously been recognized around college football for.
Doing that is no easy task.
After the Red Raiders defense captured the Big 12 this past fall, which led to the school's first appearance in the College Football Playoff, NFL teams are among the organizations taking note of the coaching job being done on defense in Lubbock.
Now, according to reports, a Red Raiders assistant is set to interview for a position with an NFL team.
Outside linebackers coach CJ Ah You will interview on Tuesday for the outside linebackers job on Mike McCarthy's staff with the Steelers.
Tom Pelissero was the first to share the news.
The report adds that Ah You interviewed for a position just days ago with the Cowboys as well.
Ah You, alongside fellow linebackers coach and defensive coordinator Shiel Wood, were selected as the FootballScoop Linebackers Coach of the Year winners for their work this past season.
A former NFL defensive end, Ah You played his college ball at BYU and then Oklahoma before being a 7th round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Bills.
He would end up playing a few seasons for the Rams back when they were still in St. Louis, ending his NFL career with the team in 2011.
By 2015 he had gotten into coaching, joining his alma mater at Oklahoma as a special teams quality control coach. Ah You would spend a few seasons coaching the defensive line in the SEC at Vanderbilt before a short stint in the XFL with Guardians, and landed at USC as a quality control coach in 2021.
Heading into the 2022 season, he had briefly accepted a role coaching the defensive line at Nevada for about a month or so, but ended up landing a role on staff at Texas Tech coaching the outside linebackers.
Following the program's decision to part ways with Tim DeRuyter following the 2024 regular season, Ah You stepped in and served as the team's interim defensive coordinator for their bowl game. and spent a few games of the 2024 season as the team's interim defensive coordinator. They lost the AutoZone Liberty Bowl to Arkansas 39-26.
In Pittsburgh, McCarthy tabbed veteran NFL defensive coordinator Patrick Graham as their new defensive coordinator a few days ago.
Graham has defensive coordinator stops with the Dolphins (2019), Giants (2020-21), and Raiders (2022-25) prior to landing in Pittsburgh.
