With spring practice just weeks away, Northern Illinois is on the verge of rounding out its coaching staff.
The latest? Sources tell FootballScoop that head coach Thomas Hammock is targeting Matt White to become the Huskies' next offensive line coach.
Most recently, White has been the running game coordinator and offensive line coach at Football Championship Subdivision program Southern Utah University.
But White owns previous coaching experience in the Midwest, where he was for four seasons the offensive line coach at Truman State University in Missouri.
Before that, White logged multiple seasons as the offensive line coach at Charleston Southern, also an FCS program.
A former North Carolina State player, White has also coached in the prep and junior college ranks in California.
Northern Illinois is entering its eighth season under Hammock, a former standout running back for the NIU Huskies in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
After winning a combined 15 games in 2023-24, including an upset-win at eventual national runner-up Notre Dame, the Huskies are coming off a disappointing 3-9 season.
They are scheduled to open the 2026 season at Big Ten Conference resident Iowa and two weeks later travel for another money game in a contest at the University of Arizona.
