UTSA: McNeese (FCS – LA) offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Matt Mattox will join the staff as run game coordinator, sources tell FootballScoop. Mattox has previously coached offensive lines at South Florida, Texas, Tulsa, Bowling Green and Eastern Illinois.
Dave Aranda: Sources tell FootballScoop LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda has emerged as a strong candidate for the UNLV head job. This isn’t about money. Have a look at the decision Aranda needs to make.
FAU: Kentucky offensive coordinator Eddie Gran will interview for FAU head job tonight tweets FAU’s Owls Nest. Update> Gran has used the twitter to let people know what he thinks of the Owls Nest report. #ThatTimeOfYear
Murray State (FCS – KY): Kentucky special teams coordinator and former Eastern Kentucky head coach Dean Hood will be the next head coach at Murray State, sources tell FootballScoop. More here.

UNLV: LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda is “in the mix” for the UNLV job, tweets SI’s Ross Dellenger (who also confirms Marcus Arroyo and Matt Canada in it as well).
Cincinnati: The school plans to announce a new athletic director by next Wednesday, according to Justin Williams. Former AD Mike Bohn left for the USC AD position.
South Florida: According to reports, Jeff Scott’s deal is for 5 years and $12.5 million with a staff salary pool starting at $3.5 million. His buyout starts at $2.5 million if he were to leave for another program before 12/31/20 and decreases annually from there. Will have more details as they become official.
UNLV: Yesterday there were multiple reports out of Vegas that UNLV was working towards an agreement with Oregon offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo. Today, we’re hearing whispers this deal might not happen. Stay tuned…
Auburn: Chad Morris has now officially been announced as Gus Malzahn’s new offensive coordinator. As a reminder, Morris is owed just over $10 million as part of his Arkansas buyout, and that amount will be offset by what he marks with the Tigers.
Liberty: Liberty has announced a “multi-year” contract extension for Hugh Freeze, first reported last week by CBS Sports’s Barrett Sallee. Stadium’s Brett McMurphy tweeted Freeze has signed a new 5-year contract, though specific contract details were not disclosed.
South Carolina: Mike Bobo will get a 2-year contract worth $1.2 million a year to be South Carolina’s offensive coordinator. Also, Will Muschamp has declined his $200,000 annual escalator to fund a $200,000 raise for running backs coach Thomas Brown, who will now make $500,000.
Cal Poly (FCS): ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura has confirmed FootballScoop’s report that Cal offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin will be the new head coach at Cal Poly. Baldwin will be introduced at 5 p.m. PT on Wednesday.
Western Carolina (FCS): Athletic director Randy Eaton will no have his contract renewed. Eaton’s contract with the school expires in June of 2020. Mike Byers, WCU’s vice chancellor of administration and finance will take over until a permanent athletic director is named following the launch of a national search.
UTSA: Barry Lunney, Jr., will be the offensive coordinator on Jeff Traylor’s staff, sources tell FootballScoop. More here.
Missouri: Source tells FootballScoop Drink has offered to retain several of Barry Odom’s staff. We are told defensive line coach Brick Haley, safeties coach Ryan Walters and defensive backs coach David Gibbs are all expected to remain on staff at this time.
Dropping Football: Two D-II schools in the same league have made the decision to drop football. Here’s more on the situation.
Missouri: Dave Matter shares that the buyout if Eli Drinkwitz is fired is 70% of the total salary (not base) of what is left on his contract.
Langston (NAIA): Langston University is looking for a HBCU NCAA DII team for a neutral site game in Wichita, KS for the Heartland Football Classic on September 14th 2020. Teams that have interest please e-mail head coach Quinton Morgan at [email protected].
Peru State (NAIA – NE): Sources tell FootballScoop that head coach Steve Schneider is retiring. Schneider has led the team since 2012, and was also the school’s athletic director from 2011 to 2018 before stepping down to focus on his duties with the football team for the past two seasons.
Assistant Coach Salary Database: The annual USA Today Assistant Coaches Salary Database makes one thing clear – the money is on the defensive side of the ball.
Ole Miss: Sources tell FootballScoop Lane Kiffin is not retaining offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez, offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr., receivers coach Jacob Peeler or tight ends coach Calvin Magee. Derrick Nix is expected to be retained in some role to be determined. An update on the defensive staff is to come….
Wheaton (D-III – IL): After 24 seasons leading the program, head coach Mike Swider has announced his retirement. With Swider stepping away, one of the premier Division III jobs is now open.
Missouri: At his presser, Eli Drinkwitz notes that he will serve as offensive coordinator and play caller, and that he will also have a special teams coordinator that exclusively coordinates the special teams units.
Carson Newman (D-II – TN): Head coach Mike Turner has announced his retirement after three seasons and a 24-10 record leading the program.
Colorado State: Butch Jones remains a strong candidate; but we might just see Kevin Wilson as the next head coach at Colorado State. The update on what is happening at Colorado State.
Georgia: This morning we shared the whispers over the past 24 hours surrounding Matt Luke joining Kirby’s staff, and now Georgia has announced the hire.
Dallas Cowboys: In response to a report that Stephen Jones met with Urban Meyer, Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, “I can confirm that it’s absolutely not correct. We have not met with any coach.”
William Jewell (D-II – MO): Per source, interim head coach / defensive coordinator Chuck Lliteras has decided to retire. Lliteras recently wrapped up his fifth season with the school where he was named defensive coordinator in 2017, and was elevated to interim head coach of the program back in February.
Memphis: Ryan Silverfield is “gaining traction” as a candidate for the full-time job, according to multiple reports. Silverfield will coach the Tigers in the Cotton Bowl.
Memphis: In a letter to Memphis fans published in the Daily Memphian, Mike Norvell announced he will not coach the Tigers in the Cotton Bowl.
McKendree (D-II – IL): McKendree University, located just outside of St. Louis, is looking to fill week 1 (9/5), & week 3 (9/19) for 2020. Arkansas: Standing on the stage fulfilling a professional dream, Sam Pittman got (understandably) choked up at his introductory press conference as the new leader of the Razorbacks.
Missouri: The hire of Eli Drinkwitz as the new head coach at Mizzou is now official.
Georgia: Unclear if this will happen or not, but there have been substantial whispers over the past 24 hours of Matt Luke becoming Kirby Smart’s new offensive line coach. Will update when more is clear.
Arkansas: Missouri offensive line coach Brad Davis has accepted a position on Sam Pittman’s staff source tells FootballScoop. Bruce Feldman mentioned the move last night and several outlets in Arkansas reported it as well.
Saint Mary (NAIA – KS): The University of Saint Mary is accepting applications for the position of Offensive Coordinator. This is full – time position with outstanding benefits.
