As FootballScoop and many others have reported, Will Hall is expected to be Southern Miss's next head coach. With the formal announcement coming any minute now, Hall is already hard at work filling out his staff in Hattiesburg.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Sam Gregg is expected to join the staff as offensive coordinator, Desmond Lindsey as wide receivers coach and Cody Kennedy as offensive line coach. All three have extensive experience working with Hall.
Gregg is currently the offensive line coach at Liberty but prior to that spent more than a decade working hand-in-glove with Hall at a number of spots. The pair first worked together at Southwest Baptist in 2006, a Division II school in Missouri, when Hall was SBU's offensive coordinator and Gregg the offensive line coach. That arrangement continued at Arkansas-Monticello, West Alabama and West Georgia. When Hall was promoted from West Alabama's offensive coordinator to head coach in 2011, Gregg moved up to offensive coordinator. The pair continued that arrangement at West Georgia.
Gregg remained West Georgia's offensive coordinator for two more seasons after Hall left to become the offensive coordinator at Louisiana-Lafayette in 2017, finally reaching the FBS level when he joined Hugh Freeze's Liberty staff in 2019.
Lindsey is currently the running backs coach at Arkansas State, but previously coached wide receivers alongside Hall at Arkansas-Monticello, West Alabama and West Georgia. Hall appointed Lindsey his assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator at UWG, where they helped the school make its deepest playoff run in school history at the time in 2014.
Lindsey also has previous experience in Hattiesburg, spending 2016 as the Golden Eagles' tight ends coach.
Continuing the theme, Kennedy coached Hall's offensive line at West Georgia and has done the same at Tulane for the past two seasons.
