The greatest success in Rich Rodrigquez's long and distinguished coaching career unfolded in Morgantown, W. Va.
Get ready for the sequel.
Numerous sources tell FootballScoop that RichRod is returning to helm the West Virginia football program, just after his leading Jacksonville State team to the Conference USA title and days since West Virginia's firing on Neal Brown.
Rodriguez has helmed programs at Salem, Glenville State, West Virginia, Michigan, Arizona and JSU for the past three seasons.
Winning 27 games since 2022 atop the JSU program, guiding its transition into full Football Bowls Subdivision membership, Rodriguez has revived his career.
But it was his first tour de force atop West Virginia that ushered in national acclaim. Rodriguez posted five-straight seasons of eight or more wins as he guided the Mountaineers to three Gator Bowls, two Sugar Bowl appearances and a spot in the Fiesta Bowl. They won 32 games in his final three seasons at West Virginia, a run that included a dominant win against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
The Mountaineers have struggled to find their footing in the Big 12 Conference, seeing Dana Holgorsen exit for Houston a few years ago and then getting mixed results under Brown.
