See this truck? It could be yours - for five bucks.
Well, not that truck exactly. This one. The tricked-out 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 you see below can be had for $5 - with a 280-pound catfish-sized catch. (Kid Rock anthem sold separately.)
Thanks to a donation from Shell Chemicals, Saraland High School, a 6A school resting 10 miles north of Mobile, purchased the truck - sticker price $53,786 - with the intention of holding a nation-wide contest to raise money for the school's extra-curricular activities.
"It's going to be a huge fundraiser, we hope," head coach T.J. Kelly told FootballScoop. "We're excited to get this thing kicked off. We're blessed to be doing something this neat and we want to make it a big deal."
The contest runs now through Nov. 7, where a $5 donation to the program of your choice - anything from football to robotics - purchases a reservation in a raffle. The school will select to winners who will be asked to compete in a bean-bag toss on Nov. 17 to win the truck. Think of the football toss promotion Dr. Pepper runs in conference championship and bowl games every fall.
Anyone from Saraland to Seattle is welcome to purchase a ticket, but the drawing winners must come to Saraland and win the bean bag toss to claim the truck. The school hopes to raise $200,000 over the next eight months or so, which equates to 40,000 tickets. If a one-in-40,000 shot at a 50/50 chance at driving away with tricked-out $50,000 truck is worth a $5 bill to you, Saraland has the web page for you.
"This is going to be a big deal in our area and we want to make it nationwide," Kelly said. "We hope to make a difference in a lot of students' lives."
