Alabama to have two NFL head coaches on offensive staff (Nick Saban)

Okay, it's just getting ridiculous at this point.

Nick Saban has already turned Tuscaloosa into the destination for former head coaches. The 2020 staff that led Alabama to the national title included none other than former Washington/USC head coach Steve Sarkisian; former Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood; former Central Michigan/Cincinnati/Tennessee head coach Butch Jones; former Houston head coach Major Applewhite; and former Louisville/Texas/South Florida head coach Charlie Strong in various roles.

All five have now left for better jobs: Sarkisian as the head coach at Texas with Flood as his offensive coordinator, Jones as the head coach at Arkansas State, Applewhite as the offensive coordinator at South Alabama, and Charlie Strong as, reportedly, Urban Meyer's assistant head coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Such is life when you're winning national titles every other year. Upward and onward. Replenish, reload and repeat.

Except now Saban is choosing among a higher class of coaches for Saban's Finishing School for Former Head Coaches.

Bill O'Brien, fresh off his firing by the Houston Texans, is expected to become the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator (he hasn't been announced yet, but O'Brien is already recruiting for Alabama). And now Doug Marrone, fired this month by the Jacksonville Jaguars, is reportedly set to become Alabama's offensive line coach.

Name another college staff that had two recent NFL head coaches on its roster -- one of whom is a position coach.

Just as Saban's success has inspired more students to apply to Alabama, which thereby allows the university to be more selective in which students it accepts, his success on the gridiron has upped the requirements for an acceptance letter to Saban's Finishing School.

We're not quite to the point where getting a head coaching job just so you can get fired and then work for Nick Saban and then get another head coaching job is part of some aspiring coaches' master plan, but we're probably not far away, either.
