Poised to continue his efforts to get Alcorn back atop the Southwestern Conference, Alcorn State coach Fred McNair is finalizing a deal to add another quality coach to the Braves’ staff.
Sources tell FootballScoop that McNair is bringing on Derek Welch to head up the Braves’ secondary.
A Mississippi native who has previous experience as the defensive coordinator for Vincent Dancy at Mississippi Valley State, Welch also has coached on both sides of the ball and boasts experience at the high school level as well.
Dancy left MVSU to join the staff of Deion Sanders at the University of Colorado after the 2022 season.
Welch, who played two seasons for UT-Martin coach Jason Simpson before embarking on his coaching career, coached wideouts at the University of Southern Arkansas.
