Collin County, Texas has been tabbed the high school football stadium capital of the world, by our own Zach Barnett, and for good reason.
Over a decade ago, back in 2009, Allen HS (TX) captured headlines nationally with their $60 million stadium, and Collin County is also home to McKinney ISD ($70 million stadium and home site of the Division II National Title Game) and the Ford Center Indoor Facility ($90 million).
More recently, Melissa HS (TX), a rapidly growing district in the county with a current high school population of just over 1,300 kids, built an impressive $35 million stadium.
Back in late September, we shared an article on a Texas school district that was proposing a plan to build the most expensive high school stadium in the country.
Prosper ISD was looking to add a $94 million stadium with a seating capacity of 8,000 due to unprecedented growth in the area.
However, news this morning shared that Proposition C, which aimed at funding the nearly $100 million project, was voted down by a percentage split of 54-46.
It was the only Proposition that failed, with the others aimed at new schools and facilities, technology upgrades and construction of a new performance arts center all passed by comfortable margins, per local news outlet WFAA.
Final results of the vote haven't been certified, but it looks like Prosper's plan to build the most expensive stadium in the country is on hold for now.
The new stadium would have actually been the second stadium for Prosper ISD, as they built one that cost an estimated $53 million previously.
