Just a day after poaching the defensive coordinator from national runner up Montana State, Scotty Walden and UTEP are reportedly set to poach more talent from the FCS ranks.
Brandon Butcher, the defensive coordinator at UT-Martin, is expected to join the staff as the Miners new linebackers coach, ESPN shares.
He spent the last two seasons calling the defense, and has been a part of the UT-Martin staff the past five years, with three of those seasons culminating in conference titles (2021, 2022, and 2023), as well as the program's first FCS playoff victory in 2021.
Last year, his Skyhawks defense ranked 6th in all of FCS in run defense while giving up just over 24 points per game.
During his time calling the defense, they have ranked among the top teams in the FCS in third down conversion percentage, sacks, tackles for loss, as well as in turnovers, interceptions and defensive touchdowns.
Before joining the UT-Martin staff, Butcher worked at the FBS level at Southern Miss, where he coached the Nickels after time as a graduate assistant and defensive analyst with the program.
He also logged time on staffs at Coastal Carolina and ECU as well.
