Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague has been on the job for just over a year and already has a lofty, clear cut vision of where he wants to take the Golden Gopher athletic program during his tenure.
In this clip Teague talks about the proposed facilities plan aimed at attracting top notch coaches and recruits, as well as improving the student athlete experience.
Phase One of the plan carries a price tag of about $190 million, all coming from a private fundraising campaign that will hit the ground over the next 6-8 years. The first phase of the project includes a new academic center and training table for all athletes and a new football specific complex which would include an indoor facility as well as new locker rooms, a weight room, meeting rooms, and coaches offices.
After showing those in attendance the conceptual images of what everything may look like upon completion, Teague explained that these plans fit what the athletic department "needs".
"This is a great plan and assesment that shows our needs. These ARE needs, and I've said that before. These aren't necessarily 'wants', we need this. This is where we've landed and we really need to pull it all together."
