After Atlantic Division title, Dabo spends unusual time defending himself and program

Clemson fans ought to be thankful for what they have going in the football program under Dabo Swinney.

During his weekly press conference the last two weeks, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has spent a great deal of time defending himself and addressing the state of the Clemson football program.

Expectations are high at Clemson, but Dabo did lead Clemson to a 9-win season and Atlantic Division championship a year ago. The Tigers are 3-3, but obviously Swinney is aware of disgruntled fans.

Here are some of Dabo's quotes from Tuesday's press conference:

“All I know is we have an Atlantic Division championship banner, put 10 guys in the NFL last year, and we don’t have guys getting in trouble. We’re also recruiting at an extremely high level.”

“We’re redshirting just about everyone we signed last year. Those guys have no sense of entitlement. They’re learning how to work, staying humble.”

“As I’ve said before, the best is yet to come. I know where we’re going. It’s important to know where you started, know where you are, and where you’re going to be…and I know that too. I can see it. Clemson has a bright future.”

“For me as a head coach…it’s all about managing people. It’s about managing team morale. I’ve learned a lot in 2 years. It’s all about your people. It’s about the people you surround yourself with. And recruiting.”

“I hope Clemson will hang in there with me. Cuz we’re going to win.”

(talking about coaches who haven't been coordinators not being able to succeed as a head coach) “There couldn’t be any further from the truth. Being a head coach is about people, having a vision, bringing people together with a single purpose.”

“I’m going to keep on doing what I do. You can’t either believe in me or not.”

Clemson hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday.
