Twenty stats worth knowing heading into Week 8

We saw, and dug up, a plethora of noteworthy stats over the weekend, including a fair share from the Twittersphere. Here's what we thought was worth your attention.

Shoot us a note at or tweet us @FootballScoop if you saw anything noteworthy over the weekend.

1. The SEC has 195 rushing touchdowns so far this season. That's 40 more than the Big Ten or ACC, and seven more than the MAC and American combine for. (H/T Bryan Fischer)

2. 14 NFL teams are averaging under 100 yards rushing per game. Only 10 FBS teams aren't cracking the 100 yard mark per game.

3. The Pac-12 is home to four of the top six passers in the FBS as well as the nation's leading rusher and leading scorer. (H/T Bryan Fischer)

4. Sunday, in their fifth game, the Pittsburgh Steelers forced their first turnover.

5. The six quarterbacks drafted before Tom Brady accounted for 246 touchdown's, 44,303 yards passing. By himself, Brady has accounted for 341 touchdown's and 46,017 yards passing before the final buzzer went off Sunday (H/T Darren Rovell)

6. Texas converted on 13-of-20 third down conversions against Oklahoma Saturday. In their last two games against the Sooners, the Longhorns converted only nine.

7. Alabama has allowed the ninth-fewest yards (1,669) and third-fewest points (68) through seven weeks of the season. Johnny Manziel alone is responsible for 33.7 percent of those yards and 51.5 percent of those points.

8. The top three rushers in the nation are all from schools that start with the letter "W" (Washington's Bishop Sankey, Western Kentucky's Antonio Andrews, and Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon).

9. Teams that pass the ball 50 times or more a game (six total) have an average record of 4-2 at this point, and include two unbeatens (6-0 Fresno State and 6-0 Texas Tech). Teams that run the ball 50-plus times per game (seven total) are an average of 3-3 at this point in the season, with no unbeaten teams.

10. Temple and UTSA are the only programs yet to record an interception. Missouri, Virginia Tech and Northwestern each have 13.

11. South Florida has managed a two-game winning streak without scoring an offensive touchdown in either win. The Bulls scored touchdowns on a blocked field goal return and a fumble return and four field goals in a 26-20 defeat of Cincinnati, and posted a fumble return touchdown and two field goals in their 13-10 win over Connecticut.

12. Houston leads the nation in turnover margin with plus-14, more than a turnover per game better than No. 2 Oregon. Not surprisingly. the Cougars are 5-0. Florida State has just three turnovers through five games (top in the country).

13. In one of the strangest turn of events of Sunday, Oakland found themselves in a 3rd-and-48 during the 3rd quarter. What play do you have in your playbook for that call?

14. The state of Texas has had nine quarterbacks who played high school football in the Lone Star state start at least one game in the NFL this year: Drew Brees (Austin Westlake), Andy Dalton (Katy), Matt Flynn (Tyler Lee), Nick Foles (Austin Westlake), Robert Griffin III (Copperas Cove), Andrew Luck (Houston Stratford), Christian Ponder (Colleyville Heritage), Matthew Stafford (Highland Park) and Ryan Tannehill (Big Spring).

15. Houston, Boise State and Utah State are the only FBS teams to allow a negative punt return yardage total through seven weeks. On the flip side, Miami (Ohio) has surrendered 339 punt return yards.

16. Not surprisingly, Baylor leads the country in long scrimmage plays over 30 yards (30), 40 yards (22), 50 yards (14), 60 yards (11), 70 yards (six) and 80 yards (three) and are tied for first nationally with one play of over 90 yards.

17. Through six games, Clemson has allowed only two field goal attempts. Neither of them were good.

18. Louisville's 2.16 opponents' yards per carry average is the best in college football, and represents the best figure in FBS since TCU allowed 1.87 YPC in 2008. The Cardinals have permitted one rushing touchdown on 190 carries.

19. A last-second field goal allowed Texas A&M to extend its streak of games with at least 41 points to nine, the best in FBS.

20. North Texas, 34-7 winners over Middle Tennessee on Saturday, has not had a two-game winning streak since 2004, when it won seven straight games en route to its fourth straight Sun Belt title. The streak in between back-to-back wins is now at 102 games, easily the longest streak in FBS. The Mean Green visits 2-4 Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
