Around the country

Here's a few interesting quotes and videos from around the country:

Quoting Kyle Whittingham: “If we’ve recruited the right way, we have younger players waiting in the wings ready to step up. I’ve never understood ‘the rebuilding year’ and all that. Every year is a rebuilding year in college football. This year, we just happen to have more holes on defense. But if we’ve done our job in recruiting, we should have some young guys step up and become stars.”

Quoting Lane Kiffin: (after Sunday’s scrimmage) “On the positive side, to go 96 plays and have only one turnover – and that was by the third-string offense – I was pleased with that. From a defensive perspective, we’ve got to do a better job of getting the ball out.”

“On defense, I thought we did well against the run. I thought our first-team defense did well. Our second-team secondary we’ve got to figure out, especially our corner spots.”

Quoting Tommy Tuberville: (on naming a starting QB) "It'll be about after at least two scrimmages. And that's probably about all we'll go. I want to give the starting quarterback at least a week or a week and a half work with the first-team to get his timing down. Let him know that he's the guy. But he's got to fight to keep it. There's obviously going to be competition throughout the year."

Quoting Oklahoma State OC Dana Holgorsen: (on having other offers to leave Houston)"None I was interested in. I loved it (at Houston). I was developing a guy (Keenum) that's going to break every record in NCAA history. There was a strong bond and a strong relationship. We had a pretty fun year last year. I was fairly excited to coach him (as a senior) and watch him break all of those records."

"With that said, I wasn't shopping myself (for other jobs). This just happened to be an opportunity that I felt really good about. I'm not a job-seeker type of guy. I like to settle in and work hard. If you coach hard and do well, opportunities will arise."
