FootballScoop's Fifth Quarter
While you were out compiling recruits, we were busy compiling our top five stories of the week.
First, for coaches: We put together a quick survey on the state of recruiting and technology. Take two minutes and fill it out.
The Week's Best:
- Episcopal School of Dallas didn't have any players sign scholarship papers on Wednesday. Head coach Clayton Sanders held a signing day ceremony anyway.
- Texas head coach and AFCA President Mack Brown had a lot to say about the NCAA's new recruiting rules on Wednesday.
- Twenty-five years ago, an Oregon high school squared off against a team of Japanese All-Stars. The series is still going, and Ashland HS will cross the Pacific again in July. The most unique rivalry you've never heard of.
- New Mexico State is coming off a 1-11 season, is without a conference home and Las Cruces, New Mexico isn't exactly Las Vegas. The Aggies' new head coach Doug Martin still sees nothing but positives at New Mexico State.
The Film Room: Each week we come across a large number of great videos from all levels throughout the country. Here's the best we saw this week.
- Pound for pound, Division II Missouri S&T may have the best recruiting pitch in all of college football.
- Wisconsin players got a special off-season workout when they took part in the halftime show at a recent basketball game.
- Take a peek behind the curtain of the signing days at Maryland, Michigan State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Auburn.
- Here's the video Oregon showed its players before the Fiesta Bowl.
- With new head coach Todd Monken installed, Southern Miss celebrates its history as it prepares for the future.
- "Once a Tiger, always a Tiger". The LSU experience.
- Check out the season highlight video of Sun Belt champion Arkansas State.
- Division II Notre Dame College (Ohio) uses this video to gain an edge in recruiting.
- Kentucky produced a commercial that aired solely in Lexington, Ky., during the Super Bowl. You can watch it here.
- More recruiting videos at Utah, Oklahoma and Northwestern State.
The best in non-coaching news: At FootballScoop we major in coaching news, but that doesn't mean we're not aware to what else is going on in college football.
- The BCS commissioners met this week to discuss the upcoming playoff. Like seemingly every other time they've gotten together, they put the important decisions off for next time.
- Conference realignment has done its best to fracture a handful of old rivalries. Perhaps Colorado and Nebraska paved the way for old rivals getting back together, as the schools will play four times between 2018 and 2024.
- Arizona has unveiled its field design, complete with a "Bear Down" watermark.
- Independent New Mexico State announced its 2013 schedule. The Aggies will travel to Texas and UCLA, and host Minnesota and Boston College. Not too shabby.
- Florida State and Pittsburgh could be in line to play on Labor Day.
- The NFL announced the list of players invited to this month's Combine. Here it is.
