At this point in the season, it shouldn't surprise anyone when Houston puts up a ton of points.
The first quarter against Tulane last night ended in a 0-0 tie, but the Cougars put together a 35 point second quarter (with only one passing touchdown) before cruising to a 73-17 win over Tulane. The second quarter explosion included two 50+ yard runs (yes you read that right) and a punt return for touchdowns.
Houston is sitting at 10-0 on the season, and entered the game leading the country in total offense (617), passing offense (457), and scoring offense (52.67).
In their past 3 games, Houston has scored 73, 56, and 73 points for a total of 202 points in a three game stretch. That's more points that 23 FBS teams have yet to score all season! The last time they failed to score at least 49 points was week 3 against Louisiana Tech when they put up 35. Impressive job by the Cougar offensive staff.
In order the finish the season undefeated, the Cougars will have their work cut out for them as they face SMU (6-3, 4-2), and Tulsa (6-3, 5-0) in the final two weeks of the season.
