James Franklin's gift to Derek Mason

The 24 wins and three consecutive bowl trips that James Franklin collected in his three seasons at Vanderbilt were great in and of themselves, but they were more meaningful in what they brought. The Commodores' success under Franklin revived Vanderbilt football. Simply put, Vanderbilt wasn't the type of job that away the defensive coordinator from the two-time defending Pac-12 champions, or the type of place whose facilities made recruits' mouths water.
