Jerry Kill and the Gophers moved to 4-0 on the season with a 17-10 win over Syracuse on Saturday afternoon. Three of their four wins (UNLV by 3 in triple overtime, Western Michigan by 5, and Syracuse by 7) have come by seven points or less.
The student section was packed, and Kill noted that the crowd of over 50,000 played a major role in the win. At the end of the game, Syracuse had racked up ten penalties, five of them being false starts. Two of those false starts came during a first quarter drive that forced the Orange to settle for a field goal.
“We appreciate the atmosphere and the support we had in the stadium tonight. Without that we don’t win.” Kill said.
The Gophers travel to Iowa this weekend to open up Big Ten conference play, and then see if the home crowd can rock TCF Bank Stadium again, when they take on Northwestern next weekend.
