Kevin Wilson: Our focus is to develop leaders this off season

Indiana was a much improved team this past fall, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Yesterday, Kevin Wilson explained that they addressed their major defensive needs in recruiting and have shifted their off season focus to not only hitting the weights, but also really focusing on the development of their leadership.

Developing your guys physically, as well as their leadership abilities is precisely the reason why a quality strength coach and assistants are vital to the growth of a program. Especially at the FBS level, that strength staff is always around to make sure that, while developing leaders, you're also developing your standards of competition and hard work which will ultimately transfer to on the field performance.

That's exactly what Wilson is looking for this off season.

"We're doing a big emphasis of leadership. We've done a good job of developing leaders, but we've got to get leaders on the field. Off the field we've got some guys in charge leading our team, but this winter time, and winter stations and winter conditioning is where if we start to take a step as a program, our leadership on the field is going to pick up along with our standard of how we compete and how we work."

With spring practices just around the corner, that development of their on the field leadership will get a preliminary test before the bullets start flying in the fall.
