Well, once again, the internet is abuzz tonight with Urban Meyer to Ohio State talk. Earlier tonight, the website SportsByBrooks posted that, "multiple sources close to the Ohio State football program have confirmed that Urban Meyer is assembling a coaching staff after agreeing to become the next head coach at Ohio State."
Twitter nearly exploded.
However, cool water was quickly poured on the fire when Gainesville reporter Pat Dooley tweeted that he text'd Urban who replied, "No truth to it."
For what it's worth, the post on Brooks' website added that Meyer's agreement was agreed in principle but has not been signed. He added that Meyer has been told he'll have the budget to assemble what is "expected to become the highest-paid assistant coaching staff in history."
Brooks also said that Meyer's "initial plan" is to retain Luke Fickell and Stan Drayton (who was with Meyer at Florida). Says he also plans to add his TV co-worker Chris Spielman, Kirk Herbstreit, Jon Tenuta (NC State) and LSU's offensive coordinator / offensive line coach Greg Studrawa (who worked with Urban at Bowling Green).
Sources at Ohio State that we spoke with today said that they believe Urban is the target; but that both sides have agreed to hold tight until they have additional clarity regarding the matters in front of the NCAA (Ohio State is scheduled to appear before the NCAA infractions committee on December 10th; however they have requested to move the discussion with the NCAA up to the week of November 28th).
