MTSU offensive coordinator resigns

“I have resigned my position as offensive coordinator and running backs coach effective immediately for personal reasons. I feel this is in the best interest for me and the athletic department at Middle Tennessee. I need to focus on my personal matters and allow (head coach Rick Stockstill) to begin the process of moving his team forward. I love those players and want to wish them well.” With those words, offensive coordinator Willie Simmons stepped away from Middle Tennesse.

Stockstill, who recruited Simmons to play quarterback at Clemson, said, "He is like a son to me and I will continue to support him through this difficult time in his life."

Simmons was on Stockstill's staff for the past five seasons and was serving as the offensive coordinator for the first time this season.

The Blue Raiders are currently ranked 20th in the nation in total offense. They are off this weekend and return to action against FAU next Saturday.
