North Dakota State promotes defensive coordinator Chris Klieman to head coach

North Dakota State athletic director Gene Taylor announced today that defensive coordinator Chris Klieman will take over as the head coach of one of the premier FCS programs following the 2013 season.

Klieman and Craig Bohl will continue to coach together for the remainder of their FCS playoff run, at the end of which, Bohl will leave to take over the Wyoming program.

Prior to coming to NDSU, Klieman was the head coach at Loras College (D-III - IA), so this will be his second head coaching job. While at NDSU, Klieman has led one of the most feared defenses in the country. Over the past three seasons, Klieman's defensive unit has led the nation in scoring defense, and last season, with plenty of input from his peers and opponents, was named our 2012 FCS Coordinator of the Year.

This a great hire to maintain continuity within one of the most successful programs in the country. Klieman is one of the good guys in the profession.

Earlier today, we saw a note from NDSU play by play announcer Brian Shawn that Klieman would be keeping two assistants, and the rest would be joining Bohl's staff at Wyoming.

As always, we'll keep you updated on how this situation continues to develop.
