By now you are surely well aware that Northwestern's 34-20 win over Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl was the program's first since 1949, snapping an NCAA-leading nine-game bowl losing streak.
The win also made Pat Fitzgerald, one of the most respected coaches in the game, Northwestern's all-time winningest coach with 50 career victories. "This is just the beginning. We've got something special going in Evanston," Fitzgerald told ESPN2's Allison Williams after the game before adding, "I'm definitely going to celebrate this one."
Fitzgerald is far from the only Wildcat celebrating the milestone win, as many of Northwestern's prominent alumni quickly displayed their satisfaction with the program's first bowl win in their respective lifetimes.
The next time someone doubts the importance of college football, point them to this win.
