On the way to game...bus catches fire and destroys all equipment

Thankfully, all of the players and the staff were able to get off without injury; but Western New Mexico's football program lost everything else in the fire.

The team was on the chartered bus heading to Durango, CO to play Fort Lewis Friday afternoon. A fire broke out in the cargo compartments and the bus wound up being totally engulfed in flames and burned completely. Not a single person was injured but all of WNMU's football equipment was destroyed. Everything.

The game went on; although they pushed kickoff back a few hours to allow time for WNMU's home jerseys, practice pants and some old helmets to be driven to the game.

Nike donated new cleats.

Guys were literally trading helmets when the offense gave way to the defense and vice versa.

Down 14-13 at halftime, we can only imagine the talk that head coach Adam Clark gave his guys, trying to get them fired up...ok, maybe that would have been a poor choice of words...for the second half. Whatever he said, it worked as the Mustangs came out and rallied for a 26-17 victory.

We're very glad no one was hurt. Take a look at what was left of the bus.
