Maryland just stuffed Navy on 4th & goal from inside the 1-yard line with under 30 seconds to play to defeat the Midshipmen 17-14.
Immediately following the gutsy effort from his team, Ralph Friedgen said, “You won’t believe this, but we discussed that play. They had had success running it.”
Maryland was able to get penetration and stuff Navy quarterback Ricky Dobbs after a quick fake to the fullback.
Friedgen added, “I told our kids the difference in 2-10 and 10-2 is a matter of wanting it more. There’s going to be an ebb & flow in every game. Our kids persevered today.”
Navy outgained Maryland in total offense 485 to 271 yards.
Maryland will return to action on Saturday when the Terps will host Morgan State.
