Saban's winning formula: 'His players play better than your players'

By all accounts, legendary Alabama head coach Gene Stallings was extremely successful during im time as the head coach of the Tide in the 90's.

Stallings had an overall record of 70-16, including a 6-1 bowl record and a National Title during his time in Tuscaloosa. Even with all that on the field success, Stallings can still admire Nick Saban from a coaches perspective.

"You can't say enough about Nick Saban," Stallings told the Afternoon Sports Drive on 105.5 FM from SEC Media Days (hour one of the show). "The bottom line, in my opinion, his players play better than your players. That's the reason they win."

Sounds like a simple enough formula...

"Now, they have better players. You take the quarterback...30 touchdowns, three interceptions. They're a joy to watch. They make a play, they don't run out in the middle of the field and do somersaults. They go back to the huddle, make the next play."

While Saban isn't easily flattered, something tells us that hearing this glowing reccomendation from a Crimson Tide coaching legend like Stallings will etch a special place in his memory.
