The Scoop: Sad news to report today as former Utah defensive backs coach Aaron Alford passed away this morning.

Gary Patterson on what he loves about Twitter: “[Twitter] gave me something that I thought I didn’t have the last couple of years — a way for me to outwork another head coach. I get home at night and it gives me an opportunity to talk to kids as far as direct-messaging and see what’s going on and let them get a chance to know me.”

Tulsa has made a key hire: Goldie, a five-month old golden retriever, as the program's official dog ambassador.

For the eighth year in a row, Texas sold more merchandise than any other program. Winning three national titles in four seasons was only good enough to put Alabama in second place.

Charlotte athletics director Judy Rose had a money quote about why college football is so important: "Without football you're not viewed as a total athletic program." Analyzing Charlotte's jump into the deep end of college football.

Rich Rodriguez told the media he had a lot of concerns after Arizona's weekend scrimmage: “I’m concerned with everything on offense. Everything. Know what I’m concerned about with offense? Everything.”

Butch Jones had his team rip a page out of the basketball playbook at this morning's practice:

A Texas high school school district has perhaps the best set-up of any in the country. The Frisco ISD is set to go in on an indoor facility with the Dallas Cowboys, which means Frisco teams will essentially play in a 12,000 seat dome

Lake Forest (D-III - IL) has released a nifty new uniform reveal video

Dave Campo on becoming a college defensive coordinator after being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys: “Let me put it this way: When I got fired with the Dallas Cowboys, there are a lot of head coaches who never would have gone back to being an assistant again You’ve got to throw your ego out the window. The ego part is winning games. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’ve been. If you don’t win, you don’t win.”

Old Dominion has one of the most creative new helmet designs we've seen this year.

Last year, the Big 12 sent nine of its 10 teams to bowl games. The SEC is prepared to top that. As soon as 2014, the SEC could send as many as 12 of its 14 members to bowl games.

Coach worth following on Twitter: Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson made sure to share every player's favorite moment of fall camp.

Not to be outdone, though, Colorado State's Jim McElwain let his players take a rest during practice.
