The Scoop on Butch Jones to Colorado

We have learned that Cincinnati head coach Butch Jones has accepted the same position at Colorado.

Jones, 44, is 50-27 in six years as a head coach. At Colorado, though, he steps in to a much different situation than he inherited in following Brian Kelly at Central Michigan from 2007-09 and Cincinnati from 2010-12.

Jones will be tasked with turning around a Colorado team that finished 1-11 this fall and ranked 10th or lower in the Pac-12 in 14 of the 17 official statistics tracked by the NCAA.

Our sources indicated that Colorado put the full court press on Jones.

Jones leaves for Colorado after spending the vast majority of his career in the Midwest. A native of Sagutuck, Mich., he played at Ferris State (MI) before starting his coaching career as an intern with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1987-89, as a graduate assistant at Rutgers from 1990-92 and then as the offensive coordinator Wilkes (PA) from 1993-94. He returned to Ferris State in 1995 as the offensive coordinator before moving to Central Michigan in 1998, where he rose to the role of offensive coordinator from 2002-04. A stop at West Virginia coaching wide receivers under Rich Rodriguez in 2005-06 led him to be Kelly's replacement at Central Michigan in 2007 and then again at Cincinnati in 2010.

We will update with more details as they become available.
