The top 10 metro areas in the country for high school football

MaxPreps is in the process of producing its list of the best high school football teams in the country. The site gathers info from coaches and plugs its data into a computer program, which then spits out the rankings.

While ranking individual teams, the MaxPreps folks decided to go one step further and name its top 10 metro areas for high school football. The rankings take the top seven teams from each metro area and add their individual rankings together. The lower the total, the higher the ranking. For example, Los Angeles' top seven teams ranked Nos. 2, 4, 7, 8, 15, 22 and 34, so its total score of 92 leads the list.

Keep in mind this isn't a ranking of which metro areas produce the most NFL talent or the most college signees. It's an attempt to identify the areas with the deepest pool of successful high school football programs.

If you're from Texas or the Midwest, you're going to like this list. If you're from Florida, remember: don't shoot the messenger.

Without further ado, the top 10:

1. Los Angeles
2. Dallas-Fort Worth
3. Indianapolis
4. Cincinnati
5. Chicago
6. Cleveland
7. Houston
8. Austin
9. New York City
10. Atlanta
