TX A&M assistant: I've got the best player in the country

Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman revamped the Aggies’ defensive staff in the off-season. Tim DeRuyter (Air Force), Nick Toth (The Citadel), Terrell Williams (Purdue), and Dat Nguyen (Dallas Cowboys) all joined the new defensive staff to go along with Charles McMillian.

Two defensive coaches spoke about the Aggies’ defense after Monday’s practice.

Outside linebackers coach Nick Toth said, “Oh, we have high expectations. You know, I’ve got the best player (Von Miller) in the country playing for me. And I’ve got two other guys before it’s said and done, are probably going to be talked about like that.”

“We’re deeper than we were in the spring. When we takes our 1’s off the field, our 2’s are still really good. When we take our 2’s off the field, our 3’s are still pretty good.”

Defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter said, “We’re getting there. We’re playing at a pretty fast with that group. I think the biggest guy and it’s been no surprise has been Von (Miller). He’s playing faster now than he did in the spring. He’s playing at a really high rate of speed.”

Texas A&M opens the season with Stephen F. Austin, LA Tech, and FIU.
