"This is a good video from Houston with players and members of their sports performance staff explaining (and demonstrating) how they keep their guys fresh from fall camp, through the end of the college football season.
As with every other college program across the country, the Cougars use cold tubs after practice. While nobody admits to liking the experience of submerging your lower body in freezing water, once the players experience the benefits behind it firsthand, they're quick to hop on board.
The other thing that they've started doing is pool workouts. It provides a change of scenery from the other workouts, and the water gives the body a fresh new resistance to battle other than gravity.
"One of the things that I'm always asking other strength coaches is 'What is something that you do that gets your guys' legs back quicker than anything else?' One guy in particular said that they go down to the pool and just do different movement drills within the pool and it's a nice change of scenery, and also they get to get in the water and get a different type of resistance than just gravity. The feedback we've gotten from the guys has been really good." co-director of sports performance Brian Odom explained.
