There's no easy way to tell your players you've taken another job. Even under the best of circumstances, it's still a difficult situation. And when the coaching change comes after the season has ended and players have scattered across the country for their winter break, it's a downright logistical nightmare.
So Dino Babers got out a video camera and told his players directly. "I just want to thank you guys for allowing me to be your head football coach," Babers said. "I couldn't have started with a better group. You guys broke me in. You guys got my career started, and I love every last one of you guys."
He made the best of a difficult and sticky situation and, at the end of the day, his players will respect him even more than they did before.
