Video: Illinois peels back the curtain on the QB battle
In their groundbreaking new series, "The Ilinois QB," Tim Beckman and his staff open the doors to their wide open quarterback competition between Wes Lunt, Reilly O'Toole, and Aaron Bailey.
This episode focuses on each quarterback's path to Illinois and how they all compiled a combined 5-0 record at Memorial Stadium as high school quarterbacks in the state title game.
Interestingly, Wes Lunt (who transferred from Oklahoma State but is from Illinois) admitted that he got distracted in the uniform and facilities craze during the recruiting process and lost sight of what he felt was important.
"You get caught up in all the jerseys and facilities while you're getting recruited, but there is a lot to be said about playing in your home state in front of all the home fans."
Pretty cool idea to connect with the fan base and even more impressive that they were able to get all the quarterbacks on board with the idea. This episode was introductory, so I'm interested to see how this series evolves as spring ball continues and how other programs put their own spin on this idea moving forward.
