In an effort to possibly deflect some of the Lane Kiffin "hot seat" questions during Pac 12 media days, Pat Haden gave a state of football speech yesterday.
"I anticipate that the media will ask me if our football coach is on the 'hot seat' this year. Haden explained. "Here is my answer, and will be my answer whenever I am asked, he is not."
"I'm behind Lane Kiffin 100%. He is a very hard working, detail oriented coach, he's a dynamic play caller in my estimation, and he is an exceptional recruiter. He knows USC, and he knows what it takes to be successful here."
Taking a look at their schedule, the Trojans will have seven home games this season, but they will also face seven teams that made a bowl last season (all of which won at least 8 games). Four of their opponents finished in the top 25 and another four will have brand new head coaches (Cal, Oregon, Boston College, Colorado).
On top of that, Kiffin and his staff will be working with less than 70 scholarship players, well short of the 83-85 that 11 of their 13 opponents will be working with. Also, with Haden being a former Trojan quarterback, Kiffin has a athletic director in his corner with an understanding of the head coaching job that most coaches don't have the luxury of having.
