As if anyone had forgotten, the Johnny Manziel early departure last week's Manning Passing Academy has reminded the nation that the Mannings are the first family of football. It's hard to say whether their impact is greater on the college game or the NFL, because they cast three 6'4" shadows throughout the entire game. What is certain is that no one can match a legacy that includes three legendary SEC careers, two No. 1 NFL Draft picks and one No. 2 pick and three Super Bowl MVP awards.
So, to celebrate a family that clearly doesn't get enough attention, ESPN will release a documentary on the Mannings, titled "The Book of Manning." Unveiled Tuesday at SEC Media Days, the film is the latest in ESPN's "SEC Storied" series. If you're not an Ole Miss, Tennessee, Saints, Colts or Giants fan, there's certainly enough in here on the importance of father-son relationships to appeal to everyone. Olivia and Cooper, as well as Archie's dad Elisha, figure to play prominent roles in addition to Archie, Peyton and Eli, but we'd be more than fine with two hours of nothing but home videos from the early '80's.
You'll have to wait a while for this one to actually hit your TV screen. Premier date isn't until Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
